There’s a new form of travel for those who have money but want the experience of “slumming it.”  A five-star South African resort now offers people a night in a metal shack, complete with an outdoor bathroom and a battery operated radio. I was intrigued when I saw the headline about it.

To me, the concept sounded insensitive toward those who actually live in poverty. But at the same time, is it really that different than paying to walk through a “poor African neighborhood” at a theme park? (I’ve done that more than once.)

I found the wedding photo above when I did a search for images of this South African resort. While the wedding photo is artistic and unique, I can’t say I would proudly display it in my home.
